Cosmopolitan-October 1939

Cosmopolitan October 1939

Jane Hall and Kate, “Beauties.” Cosmopolitan, October 1939. Reprinted by permission. Hearst Corporation.

Cover artist Bradshaw Crandell called this image “Beauties.” He and his wife became good friends of Jane when she was in Hollywood. She was inseparable from her dog Kate (real name Katherine Scarlett O’Hara) — she’d rescued her during the March 1938 flood that devastated Los Angeles. Crandell used the device of the dog tag to put “Jane Hall MGM” on the cover as most of his iconic cover girls were anonymous. We own the original pastel. Cover design Copr. Hearst Publications.
